How does EMDR Therapy Treat Trauma?

Old disturbing material from past trauma is stored in the brain and stays there raw and unprocessed like a tangled ball of yarn. When triggers appear within the environment, clients experience a wide range of emotions such as memories, flashbacks, avoidance behaviors, nightmares and disturbing physical symptoms and emotions. During EMDR reprocessing, a movement is facilitated by using bilateral stimulation between the two regions of the brain.  This bilateral movement assists in trauma memories are consolidation. The trauma memories through EMDR reprocessing are processed without engaging into an extensive verbal recall for the benefit of the clients. I also use EMDR therapy, Cognitive Behavior therapy, Dialectical Behavior therapy, and mindfulness techniques, including visualization and positive psychology to treat my clients. How is EMDR Therapy conducted Via Telehealth?

At the Healing Light therapy, we used a safe and confidential HIPAA compliant telehealth platform. Clients are taught specific skills used during EMDR therapy to help them with trauma reprocessing.

What is Intensive EMDR Therapy:

An EMDR intensive therapy comprises 3- 6 hours of therapy in a day. During an EMDR Intensive session we used specialized skills to heal and uncover past traumas that are keeping you stuck in your life. I have seen clients make tremendous progress with EMDR therapy. How does Intensive EMDR Therapy work:

To ensure that you are a good fit for this treatment we will conduct a phone interview followed by Initial Assessment. Typically, EMDR intensive sessions are usually scheduled for 2-6 hours, and there is a minimum of a 2-hour session. During the intake, we ask you a lot of questions to ensure you are a good fit for this treatment and rule out any adverse conditions that may be a barrier for treatment. Your safety is my number one priority. I take that very seriously.Next, we will schedule the appointment and send the paperwork to complete and return to us, this paper work may consist of an intake questionnaire, informed consent, privacy policies, and your rights and responsibilities within the therapy setting. We will also include some assessment scales to measure the severity of the current symptoms to get a baseline measurement. We encourage you to complete the paperwork as soon as possible to secure a spot. Once the paperwork along with half payment is received your session will be scheduled. Your payment for the remainder of the session is due 2 weeks prior to the start of the treatment. You can reschedule this session, 2 weeks prior to treatment date, for a date within 3 months. After 3 months there will be no refunds issued.

Scheduling and Costs:

Your appointment will be scheduled six weeks out for EMDR intensive treatment and is priced at $1200 a day for a full day of session. A typical session consists of meeting for 3 hours, a break for an hour, and then followed by another 3 hours of reprocessing. When we meet, we can give you a good guess of how long but know that it’s a guesstimate at best, because when we start you may have other issues that we have no way of knowing until we start. You can decide to choose which traumas you want to target first. Most people schedule 3-4 days of treatment. After the treatment is completed, I will send you the assessment again after two weeks to measure progress after treatment and do a free follow up session with you to check on your progress. If there are existing areas that you think should be revisited, we can set up other sessions later if you’d like.If you are coming out of town for this treatment, please know that you can stay at a hotel here in Solon or within the surrounding areas close to Solon Ohio, there are plenty of eating places close by and there is a community center and a gym on Aurora Road. There is also a public park close to the community center in solon that you can avail for this walking post treatment purposes. I encourage physical exercise, yoga, stretching, anything that makes you feel relaxed and grounded. You are encouraged to pack with your items that make you feel most comfortable during therapy, I encourage you to bring them long because the treatment will last a whole day.
